With the increase in automation of industry equipment, there is a growing demand to improve equipment utilization, enhance production efficiency, reduce labor intensity for workers, and accommodate frequent product changeovers. The key focus here is to go not immediately into full automated solutions but to replace manual labor by simple loading and unloading of workpieces, for instance to extend the production to a man less 3rd shift. While today’s automation with industrial robots usually requires high piece count and complex machine integration from the beginning, automation with cobots can be realized in a much simpler way and with less effort. This is most important for small to medium sized companies and opens the opportunity to enter application with robotics.
