20kg,1780mm, IP65: Decoding JAKA Zu20 for Smart Manufacturing

When scaling automation to a 20kg payload, manufacturers seek more than just lifting power; they demand reliability and operational efficiency. Palletizing for Cosmetics Giant

 

 

A global chemical and cosmetics company initially deployed five JAKA Zu20 to palletize its wide array of daily consumer products. Building on this success, its various factories around the world introduced nearly 20 additional JAKA Zu20 palletizers.

 

The process is highly efficient, capable of handling 8 boxes per minute. With a reach of 1780mm, JAKA Zu20 can also meet the company's operational needs without the use of an additional seventh-axis lifting column.

 

This solution is further enhanced by the JAKA palletizing add-on, which allows for rapid changeovers by quickly adjusting box dimensions, pallet sizes, and stacking patterns.

 

With the adoption of JAKA Zu20, the company was able to shift workers from heavy lifting tasks to higher-value roles, achieving a return on investment (ROI) within one year.

 

Door Outer Panel Inspection

 

 

In the automotive welding plant, two JAKA Zu18 robots secure the door and hood panels. A JAKA Zu20 with a 3D scanner on its end-effector performs dimensional inspections of the parts, capturing data such as gaps and hole positions, which is then uploaded to the system for analysis.

 

Previously, four workers were required to perform these tasks, and the results were often inconsistent due to unskilled or fatigued operators.

 

JAKA Zu20 boasts a repeatability of ±0.05mm and a reach of nearly 1.8meters, allowing it to flexibly adjust its posture and accurately scan the outer panels from various angles. Furthermore, its high stability ensures smooth scanner movement to get clear and consistent data.

 

With the implementation of JAKA Zu20, inspection efficiency has increased by over 50%.

 

Aero-Engine Inspection

 

 

In the aerospace industry, specifically in aero-engine inspection, 1780mm reach offers a significant advantage. Its reach allows it to cover the large inspection area of aero-engines without the need for frequent fixture changes or device adjustments, thereby enabling the flexible execution of multi-angle inspection tasks.

 

On-site tests showed that the single-session detection coverage has increased by about 25%. The consistency of inspection results has improved by 15%, providing more reliable data for maintenance and quality control.

 

CNC Machine Tending

 

 

Machine tending is another area where JAKA Zu20 excels. Seven JAKA Zu20 are currently deployed for machine tending tasks at a major company that manufactures 5G communication base station structural components and automotive parts.

 

The distance between the machine tool and the material bin is quite long, requiring a robot with enough reach to span the gap and perform pick-and-place operations deep inside the machine in a single pass, without secondary adjustments. JAKA Zu20 meets this requirement and even enables a single cobot to service 2-3 machine tools simultaneously. Its IP65 rating ensures it can withstand harsh environments, including cutting fluids, without affecting normal operation.

 

More importantly, by introducing JAKA Zu20, the company has achieved a 24/7 standardized process, eliminating variations caused by manual operations and improving both processing accuracy and consistency.

 

A standardized process is easier to replicate, control, and optimize. Consequently, whether scaling up production, handling changeovers, or integrating with other equipment, the costs of adaptation are significantly reduced.
